Matchbox Swap Ocean project!

Yes, they finished their boxes and they were so pleased too.  I think they feel they have achieved something really big!  C particularly enjoyed it.  She searched out all her magazine with ocean related topics, books we had in the house to do with the ocean and surfed the net.  I was really pleased for her.  It was the first project that she has done completely off her own back, without any help from me (apart from stapling her mini book together).  N really enjoyed having her own box to do as well.

I do really love these matchbox swaps.  It's a really lovely fun way to cover a subject and they receive one back in the post from the small person they sent theirs too.  Such a clever way of getting kids studying!  I think that's another plus to home educating children, they learn in ways that they don't feel like they're working all the time to learn!  Learning should be fun after all!

N's Mnemonic poem

At the library we found some brilliant books.  We weren't going to spend long in there but, as we always do, we found book after book that interested us.  Before we new it we had 10 or 15 books to carry home!  HB surprised me too, in a good way,she started reading a book to me that was much longer than what she's used to.  She also picked up a very short chapter book.  I don't want to say no: I don't want to discourage her.  She really is enjoying reading now, it so, so lovely.

Kev's at a works dinner tonight.  The girls are surprisingly calm and HB ate all her dinner.  HB has read me another two books and started spelling out words she thinks she know how to spell (so far she's got them all right) and H and N are scribbling pictures on the white board!  Perhaps the excitement of Daddy being around is why HB doesn't eat and they all run around like cheeky little monkeys, screaming and shouting and generally trying to get out of doing anything he asks?  Not that they're awful, they are just being kids.  They won't get away with being so cheeky when they all grown up... will they?

I got that bit of sunshine I was hoping for today.  I am left wondering how we've got to Thursday evening already, but it's been a good week.  Oh, I saw my friends 2 day old baby.  He was so small and so cute!

Note to self: I really must stop looking at newborn babies!

    1. I'm giving up the library bookclub. It's not you, it just never really took off. A shame after all that battling to get it started, but that's life sometimes I suppose.

I will still publish the questions to The Twits though. I'm sure we can still arrange to meet up at the library as and when. x

I'm sure we'll see you soon though x

    1. Due to the lack of transport, unfortunately we're not able to go :( I expect it will be brilliant! Are you going?

  4. We are yes, it's a shame about the Transport. If I had more seats you could have come with us.

    1. Aw that's kind of you :) I'm surprised they're not running a bus up to Jimmy's this time. I haven't told the girls about it: they would be very disappointed.

      See you soon x

  5. Hello there.
Could I have a little more information on the matchbox scheme please? We are looking at doing something similar with a group I am involved in as several people have mentioned it but was not sure exactly how it worked.

    1. If you are on Facebook and add me as a friend I can add you to the group.

The lady who runs it chooses the theme and matches children of around the same ages. There is a deadline to get the matchboxes sent off.

The main rules are that you use a matchbox small or large (the kitchen matches box size)nothing bigger and pack it full with anything to do with the theme. Hope that helps x
