How to squeeze an egg in a bottle!

This a really fun experiment to try...

Is it really possible to get a shelled, hard-boiled egg into a narrow-necked bottle without damaging the egg?

Yes!  How?  like this!

First you will need:
  • A large juice bottle (it must be a clear bottle)
  • Newspaper/piece of kitchen roll
  • Matches
  • A hard boiled egg

 What you need to do:

STEP ONE
Wash and dry the juice bottle.

STEP TWO
Peel the egg.
STEP THREE
Cut or tear the newspaper into strips.
STEP FOUR
Place the strips into the flask or bottle.
STEP FIVE

Light the strips on fire. You will need an adult to supervise.

STEP SIX

As soon as the paper begins to burn place the egg over the opening of the bottle.

STEP SEVEN

Then wait and wait a bit more, until.... The egg is in the bottle!

You can also try this with a balloon blown up just to the point that it can't squeeze in a jam jar (rather than the bottle).

So do you want to know how to get it back out?  It's a little messier but here goes...

You will need:

  • An egg in a bottle
  • 2/3 cup of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of vinegar
  • Sauce pot or bowl

What you need to do:

STEP ONE

Mix the baking soda and vinegar together very quickly in the bottle with the egg.

STEP TWO
Turn the bottle upside down over the bowl.

STEP THREE
Watch and see what happens.
