Science HE style!

This month was another science workshop. I love doing these science sessions so much I'm thinking of making every session a science workshop! Science is just too fun, especially in the world of home education, no child is told they are too young or too old and there are plenty of adults for supervision!

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of this fun experiment...

Then there was the iodine clock reaction (The how to do it yourself experiment to follow in a post in the next few days)...

Our solution was yellow but...

it still turned black!

Vortex Cannons were made!

Soda snakes that didn't work as well as I had hoped but worked, well after the second attempt!
After all that we still had time for to extract someone's DNA. It was going to be a 10 year old boy's, but I screwed up (I forgot the washing up liquid stage) So I redid the salt swilling stage (it was disgusting; I struggled not to gag). It did produce this though...

You see those little strands? That is my DNA! Clones of me could have been made! Don't worry there's not a chance of that now: we got rid of it down the sink.  If you haven't already come across it, here is a link to my How to Extract your DNA  post

The sun even let us play for a few hours! A lovely day with new friends and old.

I will be publishing all the experiments separately over the next few days so keep an eye out!

I think the results made the salt swilling worth it... Won't be doing it again though! lol! x
