I did this today with my (very nearly) 11 year old, 8 year old, 6 year old and 3 year old. They all thought it was SUPER FUN!
Painting like this is fun all year round but we used it to make some pretty Christmas trees!
You will need:
- Thin cardboard
- PVA Glue
- Shaving foam
- food colouring
- Glitter (optional)
- pots (paint pot sizes)
- paint brushes
if you are making the Christmas trees you will also need... - Tracing paper
- Paper Clips
- Pencil
- Scissors
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO...
STEP ONE
Mix 1 tablespoon of shaving foam with PVA glue and a teaspoon or two of food colouring of your choice. Stir quite well but not too much else the shaving foam will lose its PUFF!
We added a bit of glitter at this point but it is optional and we learnt it needs quite a lot of the stuff to show up!
STEP TWO
If you are making the Christmas trees...
Using my Free Symmetry Christmas Tree PDF file do the symmetry and then using paperclips to hold down your tracing paper with the paper clips and with a blunt pencil press quite hard as you trace the picture...
STEP THREE
Get your cardboard. Flip the tracing paper over so the marked side is facing down on to the cardboard and use the paper clips to hold it in place.
Pressing quite hard again, trace around the shape of your Christmas tree - or any other shape you want to make - the pressure will mark the cardboard with the granite from the pencil marks on the other side.
Take the tracing paper off and cut out your shape very carefully or not, it's up to you. We cut out the stars and left the trees uncut.
STEP SIX
Use the puffy paint to paint your picture. Make it quite thick!
You can try different colours too...
And, if you like sprinkle some glitter on at the end ...
Leave it for a couple of hours or over night and you will see your puffy paint will have puffed out more! We are looking forward to checking it out tomorrow and see what they are like!
My girls were very excited to use the shaving foam today so I have an idea that involves more of it tomorrow. I will share if it works out!
This looks great and is a new one to me. I think we will be trying this out soon although our Chrismas themed work has to wait until my little one has had his birthday this week
ReplyDeleteGreat instructions. Thank you
Thanks Prudence! I know you'll have lots of fun with this one ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's my Chiara's 11th Birthday tomorrow! Makes things super busy doesn't it :) She loves her birthday to be all Christmassy so we've started early :D Happy birthday to your son btw!
