Playdough faces activity

We've been playing with play dough again!  This time I thought it would be fun to make some faces.  My four year old loved this and it's a great way to talk about emotions and discuss different types of characters.

For this activity I gave no instructions to my little girl - it is art after all.  All I did was set out on the table the play dough and lots of different bits and bobs she could use to make some faces:

  • Googly eyes
  • Buttons
  • Shells
  • Wool
  • Conkers
  • Sequins
  • Glitter
  • Pipe-cleaners
  • A tool to draw on smiles and features - a pencil will do if you have nothing else.
  • Anything else you can think of.

I did roll the first small bit of play dough and squish it down on the table so she could see how she could make an area big enough to make faces but she got on with the rest.
I loved how all the characters were so different and she gave them all names too!  We played out stories, practised using dialogue and talked about facial features and our five senses!  LEARNING THROUGH PLAY - the best way!
