STEP by STEP: How to Make a Greek Name Plaque

Yes, we are still having fun with the ancient Greeks and when we got to the point of Greek writing I thought: time for something arty!

The girls really enjoyed this and the best bit for me is that they happily work independently with little need for intervention, so I go on with helping Harmonie learn her English alphabet!

If you want to know how we made our Greek Plaques, here's a Step by Step tutorial of how we did it...

You will need:
  • An old cereal box
  • Scissors
  • Paint (we used gold but if you don't have any yellow will do)
  • A permanent marker pen
  • A pencil
  • red and blue pens or paints
STEP ONE

Cut out a rectangle of cardboard from an old cereal box 25cm by 15cm approximately.

STEP TWO

Paint it gold (or yellow if you have no gold paint) on one side of the cardboard, the plain side.

STEP THREE

Wait for it to dry.  Over night is best.

STEP FOUR

On a separate piece of paper, sketch out in draft how you want you plaque to look and practise writing out your name or someone else's name in Greek using this to help...

STEP FIVE

In pencil, draw out your design on your painted cardboard that is dry the go over your design in your marker pen.

STEP SIX

Finish your border. The Greek pattern design around the edge was done in paints by Chiara and Naomi but Honi chose to use coloured marker pens which still looked effective.
