Art: How to make a sparkly snowflake picture

My six year old Honi wanted to do some more painting with salt.  With all the talk of snow in the news at the moment, I had an idea...

Make your own snowflake!

It's a very simple winter craft to make and all you will need is...

  • Paper - blue works best in my opinion
  • White paint
  • A paint brush
  • Some salt

STEP ONE

Paint a very wet line of paint down your paper like this...

STEP TWO

Then draw another wet painted line like this...

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE PAINT IS THICK AND WET SO IT REACTS WITH THE SALT TO MAKE IT MOST EFFECTIVE.

STEP THREE

Then draw a third line to make six points...

STEP FOUR
Now you can begin to make patterns...

STEP FIVE
Before the paint dries sprinkle salt over the paint, shake of any excess salt and...

You should have something like this!

You can see how the effect crystallises just like real snow, Honi loved this!

Here are a couple of the many snowflakes that my Honi made this morning...
