Art: Puppet on a stick

When I thought up this idea I was thinking of making puppets on a stick for a nativity scene.  The were created the same day as the lovely puppet angels!

My Harmonie had other ideas though - pretty sparkly princesses - so we ended up making these...

They turned out to be rather cute and stemmed from the angel puppet idea.  I will be doing some Nativity templates some time over the weekend as I would love to do a nativity play with them as we haven't been to one this year.

Anyway, if you want to know how to make some of these yourself here's how we made ours...

You will need:
  • Lolly pop sticks
  • Thin Cardboard
  • A top from a Fruit shoot bottle or something like this...

  • A pencil
  • Pens
  • PVA glue
  • Glitter
  • Googly eyes
  • Sequins and beads of different shapes
  • Wool (for hair)

STEP ONE

Using your bottle top, draw a circle like this on your piece of card.

STEP TWO

Using your lolly stick for straight lines draw two slightly slated lines and a line across the bottom to make a dress shape like this...

STEP THREE

Using the ends of your lolly stick make feet (or shoes).

STEP FOUR

Using the ends of the lolly sticks again draw around them to make arms like this...

So you have something like this...

STEP FIVE

Cut your shape out.

STEP SIX

Give the person doing the craft pens or pencils to colour in their person.

STEP SEVEN
Add a smile and a nose and eyes or stick on googly eyes. We also added the hair at this point...

STEP EIGHT

I placed out all the different pieces to stick on: Sequins, beads, glitter etc. I also provided the glue, glue stick and a pair of tweezers to make putting the beads and sequins on more fun and help improve fine motor skills.

Then you are finished, so leave to dry and then, when they are dry enjoy acting out a story!
